Monday 18th September 2017 ....Foot!!!!!!

It has been a while since I talked about my foot, more specifically about my toes ...so sit back grab a cuppa tea and enjoy hearing the latest!!!!!

I think you all know that for such a handsome and George Clooney look alike I have terrible toes, NO I won't subject you to photographs..just trust me on this one...

The gap between my big toe and the next toe on my left foot has given me problems as long as I can remember the second toe sort of overlaps the big toe causing a  callous to form at the base of my big toe and it needs to be treated and scraped down every so often.

It has started to get sore the last few days so a trip to the foot doctor was in order and I had been told of a great clinic close by and I stopped by this afternoon to make an appointment and to my surprise the young female practitioner saw me right away.....

She was very good examined my foot and said she could make a small bridge that would stop the toes from rubbing together and she cleaned my toe scraped away the callous and then made me a rubber type insert to place between my big toe and the next one and fitted it to my foot......

Very professional and the toe felt good and I have been walking with it for the rest of the day and it feels perfect.

The cost for all of this 380 pesos  work it out in your currency incredibly cheap and for good work I was impressed!!!

I  invited Linda to come to my English class tonight and it was a really good time the students loved hearing a new voice and it was a confidence boost for them to talk in front of a stranger...I even had a new person join the class.....it was great they are such a wonderful group and I feel honored to be there to help them a little.....

Les, you have shown us a photo of your foot problem on past posts. When I saw the picture, it looked like (at least the beginning of) what is diagnosed by pediatrist surgeons as hammer toe. Beach had a really bad hammer toe, and it took me years to convince him to have surgery; you have to wear a surgical boot for a while after the surgery which, of course, is inconvenient. But now he sees that it was all worthwhile. Before, we never could get shoes to fit him properly, and he would limp because of that and his foot would always hurt. The surgeon said that the problem is hereditary. Did your Mum or Dad have this same problem? Or if they never mentioned it, did you ever notice the way their toes were formed when barefoot? Beach's Mum had a very severe case and would only wear sandals during her life because of it. If you ever intend to have surgery to correct the problem, do it while you are young so that the healing process won't take as long, and you will have your Canadian family around to assist you during the healing process.

Absolutely not! (LOL!). The modern medical community today does NOT amputate your toe! Today's modern podiatry surgeon specialists (not those foot doctors who primarily take care of bunions, calluses, and corns) straighten your toe by rotating the joint or joints and temporarily insert a splint in the toe in question to keep it stationary and apply a surgical boot so that you can move around within a decent period of time after surgery. But you have to be proactive in finding these surgical specialists and look at their medical board certifications and any patient reviews of their work available in the public domain. Beach was inconvenienced very little after this surgery, and he is a very physically active individual. Modern podiatry surgery has come a very long way since those days of (what was it) amputation! My goodness! Even Beach's attitude has changed because he feels so much better.
