Sunday was Sara’s day off and the lovely couple that we met on Saturday, Esther and Steve decided it was a great day to go to Telegraph Creek, the sun was shining and Esther and Steve took us in their Jeep and we left at 9am.
We first drove north up the highway to Dease Lake where there were a few road improvements being made and then we turned onto the 112km hard gravel road towards Telegraph Creek.
My guide book informs me that Telegraph Creek is the most remote Village in BC accessible by vehicle!!!
Esther was a great driver and the road was easy to drive we were rewarded about 15 minutes into the trip with an animal on the road ahead, Esther slowed down and here is, so I have been told since, a very rare shot of a Bob Cat!!!!!

We were all excited about this sighting….the road continued through dense forest, then into lava laden beds…
The road was narrow and twisty and with steep grades but the views were getting better and better!!!

This is one of the few ranches on the journey and this one is named after Sara!!!!!

We were all marvelling at the majestic scenery all around us!!!!
We arrived at the small village around 1.30pm and found the only cafe in town and had lunch and this was also the place where we were to hire the jet boat for a trip down the the mighty river.

We met our tour guide and owner, Dan, and here is our transportation for the next 2 hours!!
Hard to describe the thrill of going down the fast flowing Class 3 rapid river. Dan was excellent and knew the river like the back of his hand, what was neat was that we first went up river 22kms and saw most of the sights that we had earlier seen from the road. We then turned around, free floated down the river for a while.
So sit back and just enjoy the view oh and yes HOLD ON!!!!!
It was really an exhilarating and wonderful trip and one I think we shall all remember for a long time.
Back on shore we walked around the few old buildings. It is interesting to Google Telegraph Creek and read the history.
There is another small dusty road that goes 15kms past telegraph Creek to a small community called Glenora and we wanted to take this road because one of the ladies who works in the clinic with Sara told her that her Aunt Lola lives there and for us to visit her and buy some salmon, so off we went!!

At the end of the road we came across this First Nations community who were busy eating after a long day of smoking fish. Sara found Lola and I found this little Princess!!!

and then down to the smoke house by the river!!
The smoke house is the brown building and I was completely thrilled by what we found inside, I have never seen anything like it!!!!

It was very special to step back in time and into a different culture and Lola was so kind to let us see the way of life that is so important to her family!!!
Back on the road the sights just continued!!!
We stopped at Dease Lake on the way back to stretch our legs.
I think there was a big moose here a little while ago!!!

It was truly a wonderful day and thanks to our new good friends Esther and Steve. Sara and I had a great time and shall remember this day!!!!
